We like to think of stretching as an exercise, rather than something you should do because you exercise. It will also enable you to better be able to participate in your other forms of exercise.
Stretching is a great way to keep the body flexible and mobile. Stretching classes are an easy way to get into flexibility. It can be difficult to put aside the time to studiously do your stretches and if by yourself, can be quite boring. You’ll be suprised at how quickly an hour of stretching goes by in a class.
Stretching Classes – Buninyong
Classes are no longer running on a regular basis – if you’re interested in getting a group together for a flexibility session then contact Geordie on 0405 379 204 or email info(at)gmcosteopathy.com.au
Classes will provide you with a general all over stretch. We work particularly on the back, pelvis and hips to allow the limbs to be more responsive to local stretches. Some stretches will be more complicated than others, requiring more balance and strength, but we generally have easier alternatives to work with depending on your ability and flexibility. As with strength training, practice will produce improvements.
Classes are fairly social and should make stretching more fun.
What to bring?
Just yourself, dressed in loose, comfortable clothing. We have mats and blankets for stretching, but feel free to bring your own if you prefer.
We’ll be stretching in the Buninyong Town Hall on Learmonth Street.
6:00pm – 7:00pm Wednesday
We have 18 mats available for use and you can email to book one, otherwise first in best dressed – or if you have your own mat then just rock up.
$10 per casual class
$45 for a 5 class pass (if you know you’ll come regularly)
Just about anyone can participate. Stretching sessions are great for active people as it will help keep them primed for their activities – cyclists, runners, swimmers, gardeners, other professions where you’re on your feet all day etc. For those who are desk bound then you’ll get the benefit of opening up the body that has been slowly ‘shrink-wrapping’ itself.
As with any exercise session, if you have any existing injuries or concerns regarding your physcial condition and or health it’s important that you check with your health professional before proceeding. In general though there are few people who cannot particiate in some form of stretching for benefit. The majority of stretches in these classes are on the floor, so you will need to be able enough and comfortable in getting up and down from the floor.
